Biography.....

Les & Sue "The Wrights" have both been regular participants on the country music scene as members of a number of bands for many years.

Les started playing in pop bands during the "sixties" but gradually found himself being drawn into country music.

After brief stints doing backing work for American servicemen who were playing clubs on the US bases the lure of country music became too strong and with three other musicians King's Lynn's first country band was formed. Although the group only lasted a couple of years it made a major impact on the scene in East Anglia and just before it's demise released an album for the Philips label, an uncommon occurrence for a British act on a major record label. During his spell with this band Les switched to playing pedal steel guitar, something of a rarity in those days.

With the demise of "Mountain Dew" Les moved to a Cambridge based band "Country Style". This band had long been established and worked a wide area playing dances and concerts very often in major venues in the eastern region. After about five years Pat Judge left and the band were looking for a lead vocalist. Les had by this time met Sue and she, although lacking any experience, expressed a wish to give it a try. This proved successful and she also undertook voice training to improve her performance and voice control.

Altogether the stint with "Country Style" lasted some ten years after which Les took a short break and Sue became involved in the dance band scene. After a few months rest Les was asked to fill a vacancy with the King's Lynn band "Pinewood County". Over a period the band went underwent several personnel changes and as a result Sue together with two other members of the old Country Style ended up in the final line-up. This band worked the East Anglian circuit and also was involved in backing visiting American Stars on the Peterborough County Music Festival in its heyday.

When Sue became pregnant and unable to perform the band disbanded and Les started working with local country artiste Mervyn J Futter on some of his gigs. Mervyn's use of backing musicians on some of his gigs gradually increased and resulted in a regular backing band "The All Stars" being formed with Les and Sue being two of the three members. With Mervyn being a major professional artiste on the British Country Music circuit his solo work on tours and festivals meant that he was sometimes heavily committed elsewhere and to fill the gaps in the diary Les & Sue started performing as a duo which established "The Wrights" as a country music act.

"The Wrights" carried on as duo for a number of years until taking an extended break for family reasons, Les was then invited to become a member of Ollie Austin's band playing theatres and clubs around the UK. This rekindled the "playing bug" and prompted the couple to restart the duo back up and once again "The Wrights" are back doing what they love most.
